CONSTELLATION SMILE: A Tribute to Princess Diana’s Kindness

Twenty years ago, a tall young woman with a shy smile flubbed her lines before millions of people. On July 29, 1981, Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles and became the Princess of Wales and an international superstar. Diana, with her photogenic good looks, her sympathetic gestures, and an air of vulnerability, seemed much more relaxed than the other royals, and much more accessible.

Princess Diana captured the world's attention as a royal trendsetter, but during her time in the public eye, she also became a prominent philanthropic force. Diana worked tirelessly on behalf of charities around the world, using her fame to raise awareness of a number of important humanitarian issues. Twenty years after her death, here's why Diana will always be remembered as the "People's Princess." She also inspired others to give to charitable causes.

Taking inspiration from the princess, VERTU launched an initiative to help children in developing countries access urgent cleft-palate surgery. Phones made by VERTU are designed to make communication easier, yet children with cleft palates can face barriers to being understood. VERTU helps as many of these children as possible, by launching an initiative with Smile Train, a worldwide organization based in New York City, to help kids in developing countries access urgent cleft-palate surgery.

The VERTU CONSTELLATION SMILE is a Symbian-based smartphone with decent specs and with charity in mind: for every VERTU CONSTELLATION SMILE handset sold, an operation to transform a child's life will be funded by VERTU. To further commemorate the positivity of the collaboration, VERTU has commissioned world-renowned photographer Mary McCartney to curate a series of inspiring imagery documenting the life-changing journey of the children whose lives have been changed for the better as a result of receiving surgery from Smile Train.

Since 2012, VERTU and Smile Train have been helping many children with cleft lip and palate regain their smile. In the future, VERTU will continue to expand the scope of the involvement in the community as part of the social responsibility strategy and be an active part of the communities.
