Louis Vuitton x Architect Frank Gehry: Legendary Tambour Moonphase Flying Tourbillon Sapphire
Frank Gehry, the Canadian architect, combines his expertise in architecture with watchmaking and art to create transparent flying tourbillon ships. His designs embody the philosophies of transparency and volume, resulting in a visually stunning experience. Each piece tells its own unique story, making them dynamic and full of life.
Louis Vuitton, a brand known for its art of travel, continues to push the boundaries of watchmaking. Since acquiring the high-end watchmaking manufacturer La Fabrique du Temps in 2011, Louis Vuitton has produced a series of complex timepieces with unique creativity and design. Now, they have collaborated with Frank Gehry to create the Tambour Moonphase Flying Tourbillon Sapphire, which combines architectural aesthetics with watchmaking expertise.
Frank Gehry drew inspiration from the ocean, fish, boats, and navigation for the Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon Poinçon de Genève Sapphire Frank Gehry. He incorporated these elements into the design, giving the watch the appearance of a ship sailing freely in the ocean. The case, made from a single sapphire block weighing 200 kilograms, has a diameter of 43.8 mm and a height of 11.27 mm, showcasing Gehry's commitment to transparency and volume.
Frank Gehry's iconic floating sail motif is engraved on top of the sapphire dial with meticulous attention to detail. The hands and indexes are also made of sapphire crystal, radiating a captivating light. At 6 o'clock, the one-minute flying tourbillon rotates quietly, and the LV monoflower decoration on its carriage adds a unique touch to this watch.
The Tambour Frank Gehry watch features a hand-wound caliber developed by La Fabrique du Temps, LFT MM05.01, which beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours. All movement components conform to Geneva standards, demonstrating Louis Vuitton's commitment to exceptional watchmaking craftsmanship.
The strap of the Tambour Frank Gehry is made of Louis Vuitton's exclusive premium taurine leather, which is a soft and grainy material that complements the overall design of the watch. It is accompanied by a rose gold folding clasp that adds a touch of class and elegance.
This limited edition of the Tambour Frank Gehry is restricted to only five pieces and will retail for $935,000 USD.
