Swatch x OMEGA's new 'Snoopy' Mission to the Moonphase watch
The Swatch and OMEGA co-branded MoonSwatch collection has launched a new moon watch, the Mission to the Moonphase. It is the first Swatch watch to do so.
The new watch, named 'Full Moon', features a pure white design and combines a moonphase with a chronograph function.
The watch's overall specification is made of Swatch's patented Bioceramic material. It features chronograph seconds, subdial hands, and a black tachymeter scale bezel. A notable feature is the poetic moonphase function, with the moonphase dial adorned with an image of Snoopy lying on the moon, moving through the subdials at 2 o'clock, the moonphase cover, and the moonphase dial. The watch's moon phase visor and chassis conceal a crescent moon and star motif, as well as the classic line from the 'Snoopy' comic strip. This hidden design is only visible under UV light.
All the key features of the original OMEGA X Swatch, the first Speedmaster Moonwatch to land on the moon, are present on the dial of each model. The asymmetrical case, the iconic 'dot over 90' detailing of the tachymeter scale, and the subdials of the Speedmaster Moonwatch have been delicately reproduced. The indexes, tachymeter scales, and subdials have also been accurately replicated. The indexes, hour hand, minute hand, and chronograph seconds hand are coated with Super-LumiNova® luminescent paint for visibility in low light conditions. The battery cover features a moon motif inspired by the world of Snoopy. The watch is completed with a white VELCRO© bracelet.
TASCHEN's New Book ISSEY MIYAKE
TASCHEN, the German publisher of hardcover art books, has launched a new 448-page book titled 'ISSEY MIYAKE'.
The book showcases the works of Issey Miyake from 1960, when he studied at Tama Art University in Tokyo, until his death in 2022. After graduating from university, he worked in Paris, first as an apprentice to Guy Laroche and later sketching designs for Hubert de Givenchy. This book showcases his early works, highlighting his interest in texture and form before he began designing clothes. The book introduces the materials used to make the garments and showcases photographs of the finished pieces. This provides the reader with insight into the collections released through the design studio, including the 'A Piece of Cloth' concept, the 'Body' collection from the 1980s, the 'Miyake Pleats' collection, and the renowned 'Pleats Please' pieces.
The book was created and organised by Midori Kitamura, who is the Chairman of the Issey Miyake Design Studio and the Issey Miyake Foundation, as well as the Curator of 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, the design and culture museum that she founded. She first came to Issey Miyake's studio at the age of 20 as a fitting model and has worked with him for almost 50 years. The book features photographs by Irving Penn and Yuriko Takagi, and a chronology of Issey Miyake's work and biography by Kazuko Koike.
TASCHEN's new book, 'ISSEY MIYAKE', will be released in May this year for those interested in learning more about the legendary master.
